But the events aren’t just limited to the main event. Indeed, the fun starts at 0700 with team check in for the Youth Race. This is a fun race and it is great to see the future racers in our sport having such a great time. The Youth race begins at 0830 and finishes at 1100. The racers will push their limits with events such as trekking, mountain biking, canoeing and special test, which last year included archery and climbing. So far 8 teams from 2 states are prepared to take the start line.
After the Youth Race racers, friends and family get to enjoy Mid-day Pre Race Extravaganza. At 1200 the music starts to set the festive mood and food will be available with all proceeds going to YMCA Partners with Youth programs. At 1300 the younger children will be able to bounce until they wear out or 1500 in the Moonwalk.
The Adventure Race Seminars kick off at 1100; from 1100 to 1200 you can choose either paddling to be held on Lake Allatoona or Mountain Biking on the trails around the Cherokee Outdoor YMCA camp. At 1215 to 1315 you have the choice of either an Adventure Race Questions & Answers at the Amphitheatre or Orienteer Seminar in the woods around the Cherokee Outdoor YMCA camp. Arrive early and bring your gear for hands on adventure race learning from some of the BEST racers in the southeast. Better yet you do not have to be racing to enjoy the Pre Race Extravaganza or the Adventure Race Seminars.
For those wanting a little more on August 11-12 the Cherokee Outdoor YMCA will be holding a Wilderness First Aide training course. Eric Rigg will be leading the class and has a 16 hour course of instruction. If you are planning to race as well as take the WFA training you can take $25 off the WFA tuition.
