Heavy rain made Norway\'s Deep Forest Adventure Race a real challenge

The Deep Forest Adventure race started this year with a one-hour prologue. It consisted of a fast and technical MTB course and an exciting inline, running and swimming section. The racers set a fast pace even though they knew they still had at least another 20 hours to go.

The first long running section brought the teams into the night and the first lighted rope challenge, a traverse between two Second World War pillars became a spectacular start to the race. The next section was a combined 30 km inline skate, a 1 km canyoning stage, and a 10 km run through thick woods towards the end point at lake Hurdalsjoen.

Many of racers fell during the inline stage when they had to pass a steep gravel road and lots of \"near drowning\" experiences during the canyoneering left there mark on the racers. But everybody smiled and was in good spirits.

At this stage team Evjen Sport 1 had worked up a huge lead, with team Multitude already one hour behind. This time difference would grow significantly during the race. One of the favourites, team Halti had to drop out of the race during this stage due to problems with their inline skates. They were really disappointed, but came the next day to welcome the rest of the teams at the finish line.

At this point the next canoe section had to be cancelled. The rain had caused the teams to drift considerably behind the originally pace time and race management decided to allow the teams to move straight to the MTB section, knowing that the rain soaked gravel roads would take out much of what was left in their legs.
