China\'s Wulong Mountain Quest 2007
Opening ceremonies and short prologue race tomorrow

24 teams have gathered in China’s Wulong region for the fifth running of the Wulong Mountain Quest. USA teams: Nike, Sole and Acoca; Kiwi teams: NZ Cavaliers, Powered by velvet.org.nz, NZ TBC, and Adventure Sport NZ (Richard Ussher and Elina Maki-Rautila’s new team); Japan’s team East Wind; France’s Lafuma – Sport 2000; Sweden’s Gecko King Club; and numerous other teams from Taiwan, Korea and China.
Teams of four will compete in the disciplines of trail and mountain running, mountain biking, rafting on Class One rivers, technical rope skills such as abseiling and rope bridges, caving/canyoning, and other adventure skills. The format is a three-day staged race, and the pace is expected to be brutally fast.
Organizers note about the course:
All of Wulong country is very mountainous. Therefore, there a very few flat areas and accordingly, the race course is either up or down. Especially on the mountain biking sections, long steep climbs and steep, fast descents are to be expected. Competitors have to be competent in these conditions.
