Man of Porage
Die another Day
Neil Atkinson (Boys in the Buff) / 04.09.2007

With this year being 2007 Bryan thought it would be a good idea to theme it on James Bond! ‘M’ (Bryan) had made the course very tough and did not want many people to finish the full course, and become a special agent!
After the morning briefing over a cup of coffee, bacon sandwich and toast at Wilf’s, the Mission was set and accepted by all who dared! Stavely village was the first foot orienteering stage and after following on a map that resembled a street map looking for fire hydrants and lamp posts, we were then on our bikes and away! As you can imagine the locals were giving some funny looks as “Bond, James Bond, cycled past.
The looks got even funnier as the rain came down even heavier! The course was a secret. You did not know how long you had to go and we had no idea what missions ‘M’ had put in our way! We had 3 drop bags so we could refuel on our way, and then we would be given more maps of different scales just to keep us on our toes.
After a couple hours on the bike we were given our first mission – we were to go into Bike Treks Bike shop and find Blowfelt’s Cat, so on a wet day in Ambleside you can imagine how full the shop was! After that we were given yet more maps and we were to go to our first drop bag at MI5 (Bryan’s house). Moneypenny (Rachel, ‘M’s wife) was quickly regretting letting us use the house as we all just trampled in and left a wet muddy puddle where we stood!
We all made a quick exit and left for the next check points, an MTBO stage in Grizedale forest! There ‘ODD JOB’ and a younger version of Sean Connery were waiting to greet us with our next mission – we had to shoot with a water pistol at 3 Buff heads! Once we hit all three we were presented with our own special Limited edition Buff with the Man Of Porage logo on! These went down very well!
