Oman Adventure Race
The Right Balance
11.12.2007
The first day of the Oman Adventure 2007 turned out to be a cleverly balanced mix of trekking and bike and run. Contestants had to get to the other side of a spectacular mountain via a path along the bottom of a wadi. From the very start, the trek was to include steep climbs and ended with a difficult track along the mountainside, a real challenge for most of the competitors. Overall, an extremely tiring start for the organism, with cramp and heatstroke increasingly taking their toll as the trek went on.
Thierry Galindo and Ludovic Pommeret from the 74 AIGLE SYBELLES ESF team nevertheless had little difficulty dealing with the situation and, after winning the previous day’s prologue, have a comfortable lead of over an hour on their nearest rivals, Bruno Girard and Didier Iket - team 72 ENS CACHAN BRETAGNE LA POSTE - who maintained their second place position. Following on 15 minutes behind them came 73 LATTITUDE 55 AMC REFLEXION with an excellent performance which saw them move from eighth position to third.
The three teams from Oman had dealt quite well with the day’s initial trek and were among the first to finish this part of the trail. But the bike and run - in particular the last mountain pass - got the better of two of the teams, with only team 68, A’RUSTAQ, distinguishing itself by managing to hold on to the excellent fourth place achieved in the prologue.
