Day 2, Tuesday, December 11, 2007Today’s stage of the Oman Adventure 2007 brought the first real demarcation between the teams. This evening, at the high-altitude bivouac at Jabal Shams, nine of the teams are still competing in the “extreme category, while the two others have chosen to revert to “adventure, stopping at CP6 today, as allowed for by the rules. This came as no surprise to observers, as more than one team had been showing signs of tiredness, even exhaustion, in yesterday’s ascent of Jabal al Jadi: a leg which was practically a gentle stroll compared to today’s incredibly hard climb to the mountain village of Yasib.
This morning, after some canyoning, the teams retrieved their mountain-bikes and began the long trek towards Amq. From there, competitors had to make their way along a mind-blowing track along the side of the mountain, whose incline was so steep that sometimes the two athletes had to help each other slowly push the bike!
Two of the teams really distinguished themselves in this leg, with radically different approaches to the test. The first of these was 74 AIGLE SYBELLES ESF. In the lead at the off, it seemed natural for the team to be in charge as soon as they got to the canyoning.
