The Race Has Started and the Teams Are Beginning To Separate

A 0500 wake up call to move the boats to the first Transition Area was the order of the day for teams. With their points already plotted teams moved down to the beach to begin the race. At 0600 Elias Jimenez gave the official start and the racers were off. The racers were careful to watch for the possible sea turtle in their path, but only turtle tracks were found.

From the run racers paddled upstream in the Indian River to a canal connecting to the Banana River. The wind helped on the upstream portion but once on the Banana River teams had to contend with the wind and current against them. All teams arrived in good spirits to TA2 to transition to their mountain bikes for the first MTB section.

Once on the bikes teams headed west towards the Tosohatcheee State Game Preserve. At the gate teams were given the UTM to TOS 5. This point was not given to the racers last night. So before venturing into the Preserve teams must plot this new point. From the gate teams will have to find 5 points in the Preserve while riding through sandy single and double track trails. After teams have gotten to TOS 5 they will then ride to the Little Big Econ State Forest.

Upon reaching Little Big Econ teams will transition to foot again. During this section teams will have 7 points to find before reaching TA 4 at Adventure Cycles in Winter Springs, Florida.
