Luis A. Rueda Fonseca / 12.11.2008

For the third year in a row the Costa Rican Federation will collect urine samples from the leaders of all five categories and each stage winners. These tests will be analyzed in a UCI’s certified laboratory.
FECOCI’s President Hernán Solano announced blood tests might be taken as well, mainly on the Open men category which will include some of the most recognized professional Costa Rican racers and a few of the international field’s representatives as well.
The intention is to introduce a new strategy on the fight against doping that matches the current policies of the UCI. This new plan is aiming to ratify the cleanness on the pro field of Costa Rican cyclists who are also road cyclists and take part ,in some of the most important events of the UCI’s American Calendar, including La Vuelta a Costa Rica held from December 18-29th.
The collection of the tests (blood and urine) will be officially performed by the Costa Rican Federation’s Commissary Ã?lvaro EcheverrÃa. The results will be fully managed by the UCI’s Committee, according to FECOCI’s information.
