Czech Adventure Race 2009
Czech Adventure Race - fifth event in AREuroseries starts Wednesday
13.08.2009

As OS-Direct is starting in Czech Adventure Race, they are huge favorites for overall victory. The one team who can still beat them is Czech team AlpinePro/Nutrend/Merida, currently fifth. Most of the other teams in front of the ranking are not participating in Czech Adventure Race. It will probably be last race of the series, as the sixth one, Adventure Racing Poland Championship, still has not published any information about this year's edition.
Czech Adventure Race will take place in the western part of the Czech Republic, crossing into Germany. The course, which is both beautiful and challenging, has been prepared in cooperation between organizers from Cheb (Czech Rep.) and Marktredwitz (Germany).
There are eighteen teams registered so far and 16 of them are local. It proves adventure racing has a firm basis in the country. "We try to keep the race as open as possible to everyone," says race president Tomas Vanek. "The time of the winning team is expected to be 50 hours, but the limit is 75. That gives slower teams time to finish the full course."
Tomas will be racing this race for the first time. He founded it and has been the leading organizer for its whole history. This year his role was taken by David Böhm from Police sports club Cheb. Tomas notes that "It is an interesting change. But I will be nervous in two ways, for the race and for our performance."
The race will have live coverage on its webpage. "We will have on-line results from all checkpoints, live commentary and photos from the course. We will also try to give a daily video summary," describes Tomas. "There will be also daily reports on Sleepmonsters. We want to push adventure racing coverage to a higher level."
