Czech Adventure Race 2009 ready to start

19.08.2009See All Event Posts Follow Event
Tuesday was the day that most teams arrived to the Czech Adventure Race headquarters, and when the secret course was revealed. The Swedish and Ukrainian teams, along with some Czechs, had already arrived Monday night, so at ten o'clock when the presentation started, there was already a queue.

The course will lead racers from Cheb to Marktredwitz, Germany and back. The first and second stages can be considered as a longer prologue. First is a city-orienteering section in Cheb. The second stage consists of a run, skating, rope ascent and abseil, and swimming/canoeing, where half of the team has to swim and other half to follow them on canoe - altogether about 4 hours.

The real racing starts with stage 3, which is the longest and toughest. It starts with 40 km of paddling, and continues with long 80 km of trekking. This stage will not only be long, but also navigationally difficult. It is mostly out of civilization.

Stages 4 to 6 are mostly 160 km of biking, briefly interrupted by 20 km of walk and 20 km of skating. These two interruptions are both in Germany. Navigation will probably be quite easy in this part, but there are some more difficult places too. There will be plenty of special tasks during the stages including ascent to an iceberg or horse-riding.

Official parts of the race are already behind us, with the opening ceremony in Cheb. The race starts Wednesday 10 a.m. from the main square in Cheb. You will be able to follow the race live on www.adventurerace.cz, where we will have times from all CPs, as well as photos uploaded directly from the course and even some video summaries.
