Crossing the Finish Line
Over the past couple of weeks we have carried reports on the progress of Orion Health through a tough Primal Quest course and an even tougher finish. The team won the race and are now able to look back at a unique experience - and to explain that 'delay' on the final stage.
Brent Explains that Final Stage

Just reading through some of your comments and thought I had better attempt to put an explanation where things are at here and how our massive "mistake" occurred on the last leg.
As most of you were aware things were going incredibly well, we were having, well, an almost perfect race, and winning by something like 11 hours. Just the last half of the last leg to go and suddenly the navigation was not fitting anymore.

We only had one track on our map and that is the same as the brown line on the tracking. To make matters worse the route was identified in the Passport as mandatory, in other words we had to proceed on the route identified, believe me if we could have we would have headed out of there on some other route or just some other track heading the right direction, but as far as we were aware that was not an option.

Anyway we spent hours going around in circles in the dark trying to relocate, it just wouldn't fit, and we couldn't find the track. It was a nightmare. Like we had made some massive parallel error, but couldn't figure out where, or how to relocate.

In the end it just got light and suddenly we could work it our from some long distance features, and we were not really that far from where we were supposed to turn off.
So with some very fine careful feature to feature navigation we make our way to where the track was supposed to turn, but no track! What the!

Oh well we just have to follow the route anyway, so we pushed our bikes through long grass, swamps and up hills where the route was marked carefully making sure that we didn't go off the mandatory route.

Eventually we did come across a track and carried on to finish the race, but our lead was severely reduced, and we are still unsure if we have won officially.
I know that none of the o
ther top teams followed the mandatory route, the officials are aware of this, but we just have to wait and see what their ruling will be.

I think we have won anyway, regardless of if we get a bonus for sticking to the route, but you never know.

There are lots of rumours floating around this place at the moment. [Ed; Orion Health were subsequently declared the winners.]
