Huairasinchi 2009
It's only 4 days before the start of Huairasinchi, and the adrenaline is already pumping for racers, support crews and organizers. 44 teams have signed up for this challenge, 8 of which are international teams ready to race through one of the most competitive and beautiful routes in the World.

Among the international teams is Buff Thermocool (Spain, France and Finland), former winner of Huarasinchi 2009, and according to their captain Benjamin Midena, they are ready to repeat last year’s adventure and then return to the enchanted Galapagos Islands as a deserved break and prize after an exhausting race. Two of their members flew into Quito today.

This year, the race will also include with an all-girl Canadian team, Untamed New England, lead by Leanne Muller, who, ready to prove that girls are tough and resistant adventure racers, have arrived in Ecuador one week in advance, on February 7th, and are currently ain the surroundings of the Cotopaxi Volcano (5,897 meters) to acclimatize.

Captain Patrick Giménez with his team, Raid 74 (France) from France also arrived early, on Sunday the 7th; Karen’s Aventura Briko team are from Colombia with Carlos Castillo as their captain and they drove down to Quito and arrived yesterday.

The Milton Basement Racers from Canada, lead by Tim Grant, just got here tonight to train at altitude some days prior to the race. This acclimatization will definitely give these teams some advantage over the teams arriving just before the race, since the organization has announced that the highest point will be at 4,000 meters or 13,123 feet.

Among the other international teams are Bosi International (Colombia/Argentina) lead by Diego Llano, Red Thundra (Colombia) with Claudia Botero as captain, and Safety Smart Wear (Colombia) with John Romero as their head.

The Ecuadorian teams are ready to prove the country’s talent and hence, some very strong teams have prepared for the race. Team Ecuador Chevrolet lead by Santiago Miño have raced the last two AR World Championships finishing among the first 15 teams and demonstrating that nothing can stop them. This year they are racing with Carena Dean (Canada) who arrived in Quito as early as January 26th. Gabriel Montero with Team Lippi is following in their steps with Veronica Bravo (Chile) who got to Quito on the 28th.
