This is thanks to Casa Montes winery, in nearby San Juan. The wines that racers are being treated to are Casa Montes’ Ampakama denomination, and include a Syrah, a Cabernet Sauvignon, and a Merlot.
The climate here is like a very dry Mediterranean climate - it reminds me a bit of southern Spain (although the geography is very different - we are in a broad plain here in town, but surrounded by beautiful jagged red mountain ranges). And the produce here is very Mediterranean - cultivating grapes, olives, and figs - a region known for its wine and olive oil.
