Untamed New England Inspires Canadian Invasion
News Release / 22.07.2010

Untamed Adventure Racing have recently announced an updated field of competing teams including thirteen Canadian and only eight home-grown New Englander teams for the upcoming World Series Race which takes place from August 12-15th. A potential fifty teams will contribute to an estimated $150,000 local economic impact when they arrive to take part in the Untamed New England race.
While the strong field of teams will compete for the race podium, the northern region of Vermont, New Hampshire, and Maine will undoubtedly be “winners as Untamed New England directly invests over $50,000 in the area on operational costs that include everything from tools, room stays, and fuel to race jerseys, safety personnel, and various permits. In a conservative estimate, the 200 racers, their family and friends, and fifty volunteers and staff will spend an additional $100,000 on travel needs and hospitality.
“Untamed New England, in its third year, continues to evolve as a destination race that attracts the top talent from across North America, said Untamed Adventure Racing director Grant Killian.
“Teams making the trip from California, from Canada, from Denmark sometimes bring families and often expect to explore the area and enjoy a bit of holiday. We take extreme pride in the opportunity to be ambassadors for the North Country and show this adventurous region off in the best light.
The thirteen Canadian teams vie with thirty five American, and one each from Denmark and Ecuador for invitations to the Adventure Racing World Championship held this year in Spain. They include defending champions ATP/Salomon, defending runner-ups Team Kinetic, and other known threats such as Team Spirit Canada, Milton Basement Racers, and Berlin Bike from Connecticut. Canadian races and adventure racing organizations such as Wilderness Traverse, Race the Phantom, and Natural Selection create a feeder system where intense competition develops talented teams anxious for their chance at the biggest races.
