Untamed New England
Charitable Funds Support Race
News Release / 10.08.2010

Details regarding the creation and location of the permanent orienteering course as well as any information regarding the conservation work will remain secret until the race opens in order to maintain integrity for the race. The funds have afforded Untamed New England to staff full-time personnel from 45th Parallel EMS for the duration of the event and to rent satellite phones for all staff. As athletes crisscross hundreds of miles in New Hampshire’s North Country, spending time in both Vermont and Maine, Untamed Adventure Racing volunteers will have the personnel and equipment to ensure the highest standard of safety during an elite competition that presents inherent danger.
“We see support from New Hampshire Charitable Foundation as a triple win for the North Country, outdoor recreation, and the sport of adventure racing, said Untamed Adventure Racing director Grant Killian. “We want to continue to develop our event as the quintessential endurance experience in the Northeast. Working in concert with the Tillotson Fund is a crucial step in our evolution. We aim to promote the race, the region, and the fund throughout the 2010 race.
Wilderness and recreation conservation work has become a trademark of the Untamed New England adventure race. In 2008 athletes organized timber for the NH Forest Society. In 2009, they cleared new nature trails for Berlin’s Northern Forest Heritage Park.
The Neil and Louise Tillotson Fund is a donor advised fund of the New Hampshire Charitable Foundation. The fund has distributed nearly $10 million since 2006. The grant awarded to Untamed Adventure Racing was amongst 34 awarded grants totaling $1,320,563. Grants were awarded to organizations throughout northern New Hampshire and Vermont and the MRC of Coaticook in Quebec for economic development, conservation and sustainable forestry, education, basic needs and community safety net. Tom Deans, chair of the Neil and Louise Tillotson Fund Advisory Committee for the Foundation said, "This group of grants truly reflects the spirit and vision of Neil and Louise Tillotson. The awards will make a real difference in communities today, as well as build the foundation for long-term community infrastructure."
