Mountain Designs Geoquest 48hr Adventure Race and Geo-Half
GPS Tracking of teams in GeoQuest
Press Release - Geocentric / 19.08.2010

The MyAthelete tracking unit is about the size of a matchbox car and is typically worn around the waist on a small belt. It doesn't need to be reset during the race and for GeoQuest, the trackers will be sending updates every two minutes allowing us to follow teams locations virtually in real time.
Occasionally there may be spots where the coverage is limited for the tracking devices due to the topography of the terrain, though I'm assured by the race directors there will be very few such locations on this year course. In the event that a team does go out of range, when the tracker's signal is picked up again, the tracker will feed information that could not be sent previously to the website, ensuring that no part of the route is lost.
In another bit of good news, the map showing team locations on the GeoQuest website has been changed (since XPD 2010) to a non-Flash based map, which will allow site visitors on iPhones and iPads to view it.
