Costa Rica Adventure Race
Teams Rest up at La Fortuna Sports Center
News Release / 25.08.2010

Race leaders Team Explore have suffered a major setback when one of its members suffered a knee injury during the trekking stage, but amazingly, they have recovered their initial pace and were first to arrive. The Swedish racers had lost their way near control point 15, giving Quechua and Multisport.fi an advantage.
They arrived at the sports centre at around 11.50 p.m. and at midnight the Swedes and Finns, who carry a penalty of 10 hours, due to their refusal to do the canyon task, set out.
Safety Smart from Costa Rica are holding on after a much needed two hours rest at the sports centre. Twenty minutes behind are Bossi, (team 15) from Colombia, who have demonstrated their talents during the race. Team Challenge from Costa Rica, also took advantage of the break, followed by the USA team Checkpointzero.
One of the members of the Quechua team suffered a cut in one of his feet. On arrival at the sports centre he was taken care of by the medical staff. The injured member of team Explore was also recovering from his knee problem. Both are on their way again now.
Many teams have had to take a break during the race, like Safety Smart, who took a three hour rest in the mountains, and managed to gather their strength again. The Spanish team Bimbache, whose female member is giving signs of total exhaustion, has had to stop every 3 miles because of sore and blistered feet, due to the humidity and wetness. Nevertheless, they have managed to position themselves between Bossi and US team, thus the Spanish are in 8th place.
QasarLontra of Brazil are officially out of the race but as is the case of the Finnish team Omjakon, two of the remaining members still continue.
This morning, five of the teams set out to Mirador point at Cerro Chato, after which they will start kayaking. Team Explore were first, although they looked quite tired, and were followed closely by the French Quechua.
