adidas Terrex Coast to Coast (C2C)
Where are they going? Day Two
Rob Howard / 26.08.2011

The day begins with the only cycle ride along a trunk road, following the A591 southwards to Thirlmere. (This is the main reason for the early start, as the road will be quiet then. )
The teams then paddle the length of Thirlmere before running across the highest peaks in the Lake District, Helvellyn and descending down Swirral Edge into the village of Patterdale. (In the previous race the more difficult striding Edge was used.) There is a timed King of the Mountains stage on the first climb to the summit of Helvellyn.
Then from Patterdale comes the longer paddle of the day, this time the length of Ullswater, which can often have rough conditions, so there are some options if the weather is bad, including staying within 100mof the shore or cancelling the paddle and extending the prior trek. Hopefully, that won’t be the case and the teams can make the full paddle, starting in the river which feeds into the lake.
This section finishes in Pooley Bridge and from here to the finish in Kirby Stephen there is a long cycle with a free route choice and no more than 500m on A or B class roads. This takes teams to the finish at the Grammar School at Kirby Stephen, where they will camp for the night.
