Where are they going? Day 4

The first stage of the day (and stage 14 on the race) is a cycle ride from Northallerton to Swainby via Osmotherley, taking teams across the Vale of York and into the North Yorkshire Moors National Park. This will be another fast stage, especially with the roads quiet in the early morning of a Bank Holiday.
Next up is a run over the Cleveland Hills along Carlton Bank. The route here follows the Cleveland Way national long distance path and finishes with a transition to the last mountain bike stage of the race. This is also open route following bridleways and minor lanes to Glaisdale, with no more than 3km allowed on tarmac roads.
There will be a lot of ascent and descent on this stage as the route cuts across the steep river valleys in the park before reaching the final transition where there is a mandatory ride along the Esk Valley cycleway to the finish field above Robin Hood’s Bay. This is different to the one used in 2009 – its nearer to the coast and you can see the sea!
It is a 300m walk down into the bay where racers will take a dip (if its not too cold!) and maybe enjoy the fish and chips in the town before the afternoon prize giving. Then its time to go home!
