Runners Arrive for the Everest Trail Marathon

Participants in the second edition of the EVEREST TRAIL RACE have arrived in Kathmandu today and they have been welcome by the race organization. The 31 runners and their companions are relaxing in their rooms.

Tomorrow will be a busy day since they will have to pass the strict and mandatory technical and medical checks, before the start of the competition. Among runners there is Agustí Roc, Skyrunners World Champion Series of years 2002, 2003 and 2004 and Núria Picas, current Skyrunners World Series world champion and Ribagorza Skygame of 2012 world champion.

The ETR gathers again a large group of participants who, eager to live a unique experience, will cover nearly 160 kilometers, with a total elevation gain around 30,000 meters. People from villages like Jiri, Bhandar, Taktur, Kharikhola, Tyangboche, Lukla and Monjo will witness the runners' pass, runners who will have to enjoy a unique opportunity as a common denominator.

The ETR elapses between heights from 1800 to 4100 meters, highlighting passes as Deurali-La, Takshindo-La or Kari-La, among others, and daily stages finish in cities as Namche Bazaar, the Sherpa capital.

The race will begin on November 15 from Jiri and will advance daily until day 20, when the arrival in Lukla is spected. A total of 156 kilometers and nearly 29,927 meters of total altitude gain.

The race director, Jordi Abad, valuing what the ETR means, says: "After a year of tough sporting effort, it's time to  enjoy unforgettable moments within an incomparable setting. The Solukhumbu is a stunning area and my aim is that both runners ans companions live this opportunity as they deserve." With regard to the sporting focus, the race head adds "very good runners have registered. As a result, the race reaches a higher level. We have Spanish champions, South African champions and the world champion in the women category. What more could you ask for?".
