The EVEREST RAIL RACE 2012 continues steadily towards completion in Lukla. Today's stage of 31 km. between Kharikhola and Monjo was expected to be a transition one, facing the demanding and exciting tomorrow’s stage, but it has turned out to be very significant for Agustí Roc (LURBEL-SALOMON), who has been able to reduce 9 minutes the difference with his closest rival, Phudorjee Lama Sherpa, along 7 km. only (the distance between CP3 and the finish line of Monjo) and has even added almost 4 minutes of advantage over him.

Lama Sherpa had left with a very fast pace from the just start and soon he had distanced from the rest of the runners, getting to be 10 minutes ahead at 16.5 km. and 9 minutes at the km. 7 before arrival.

But Lama Sherpa has not been able to maintain the same pace throughout the stage and has accused a significant slowdown when arriving at CP3. Agustí Roc has welcomed this opportunity to press the accelerator in the last 7 km. and has demonstrated his quality once again, cutting away the difference of 9 minutes and even adding 3:23  minutes of advantage, completing the stage with a time of 4:12:23. Agustí Roc (LURBEL-SALOMON) stands as interim leader of the ETR 2012.

After him, Phudorjee Lama Sherpa has finished the stage with a time of 4:16:15, and now is second in the overall standings, and Jordi Aubeso (SAN MIGUEL 0.0), with a time of 4:40:41, remains in third place

In the women category, Núria Picas (BUFF-COMPRESSPORT) continues to lead this category, followed by Marta Prat (Collbaix-El Celler del Moli) and Mireia Ruiz (AE ICARIA).

In today's finish line relatives and friends were waiting for the runners in a coincidental stage of  the trekking circuit that accompanists of the ETR 2012 are enjoying too.

Tomorrow the accompanists will also encourage their runners at the start of the 5th stage between Monjo and Tyangboche. A magnificent mountain scenery will wait for them as end of stage; a privilege reserved to the participants of a race like the EVEREST TRAIL RACE.
