The Act-Belong-Commit Augusta Adventure Fest will host the coveted Tri-Nations Trophy next weekend as part of the World’s biggest adventure race in Augusta, Western Australia, 2-3 November, 2013.

The Tri-Nations Trophy is a three way competition between Australia, New Zealand and South Africa held as part of the premier Act-Belong-Commit Augusta Adventure Race. Each nation features three of their best multi-sport disciplined athletes (two male and one female) all of whom compete as individuals and the nation with the lowest cumulative team time being the winner.

Australia’s team make-up was modified last week with the Australian Multisport Champion James Pretto pulling out due to injury. Replacing Pretto is local West Australian Sean Ralph who recently won the V-Adventure Race in Fremantle.

Ralph joins the Adventurethon National Champion and experienced Tri-Nations contender Jarad Kohlar, and Townsville Adventurethon winner Bernadette Dornom.

“It’s a massive honour to represent Australia in the Tri-Nations trophy, but there’s a lot of responsibility to do well for the team.” Ralph said. “I’m looking forward to racing alongside and learning from Jarad and Bernadette, and hopefully help the team coming away with a win on home turf.”

The Australian trio will no doubt be looking to back up their 2012 win (snatched from the New Zealanders from 2011) as they head into the fifth running of the Trophy.

New Zealand’s 2013 team make up also had some adjustments put in place with Simone Maier also out due to injury, and is replaced by Jess Simson who is the Speights Coast to Coast two-day Female Champion.

Simson joins 2013 Australasian Multisport Champions Dougal Allan, and Luke Osborne who holds the crown for Crazyman Multisport race in Wellington NZ.

“There is the traditional battle between the tri-nations which adds an extra element to the race.” Osborne said. “I always look forward to competing in new parts of the world, and Western Australia is somewhere I haven't yet visited so am really looking forward to it.”

South Africa was welcomed to the competition for the first time last year transforming the Trophy into a three-way battle for adventure racing supremacy and the title of the best adventure racing nation in the Southern Hemisphere.

Jane Swarbreck returns for South Africa, bringing with her two of the country’s top multisport racers, Justin Porteous and Troy Pletts.

The Act-Belong-Commit Augusta Adventure Race is a 63km multidiscipline off-road race with a capacity field of 1,700 competitors set to tackle a 13.5km coastal run, 1.9km ocean swim, 13km ocean paddle, 32km mountain bike and 2.5km beach run to the finish.

Over 3,300 competitors are expected across the weekend, and incorporates two additional race formats; the Act-Belong-Commit Augusta Mini Adventure Race, and the Act-Belong-Commit Junior Survivor – bringing Augusta alive with activity next weekend.

Amongst the field are a range of athletic abilities from elite individuals such as our Tri-Nations contenders, through to first timers, locals and relay teams just out for a fun and challenging weekend away.

The Act-Belong-Commit Augusta Adventure Fest is proudly sponsored by Healthway to promote Act-Belong-Commit, a community-based health campaign encouraging people to take action to improve their mental health and wellbeing.

For the health and comfort of all participants and spectators, the Act-Belong-Commit Augusta Adventure Fest is a smoke free event.
