Hernando And Maciel Win The First Stage Of Everest Trail Race 2013

STAGE 1; JIRI ‐ BHANDHAR
21,5 Km & 3795 m of total altitude gain (+1975 m./‐ 1820 m)
Luis Alberto Hernando (adidas trail running) and Fernanda Maciel (The North Face ‐ Compressport) are the first leaders of the third edition of The Everest TRAIL RACE.
Hernando (Adidas Trail Running) team Belleza Pura, set a time of two hours, 24 Minutes and 44 seconds (15 minutes less than the last year’ stage winner), and won by Over two minutes and twenty seconds from the Nepalese runner Upendra Sunuwar (Adeaventura ‐ Annapurna Treks) team Annapurna Treks‐Adeaventura, The stage in which the two of them have been close together during much of the track.
In the female category the Brazilian Fernanda Maciel (The North Facecompressport) Team Belleza Pura, won the stage comfortably, with a time of 3 Hours, 13 minutes and 57 seconds.
The second stage will be much more demanding. Not for the mileage – it has less than 24 kilometers‐ but by the cumulative altitude, and specially for the uphill sections.
It will start in Bhandar and will end in Jase Bhanjyang, and runners will have to exceed a total of 5282 meters of altitude, of which 3486 are positive slope.
It should be noted that runners will reach the highest point of all the Everest Trail Race, the Pikey Peak, 4068 meters high.
The start will be at seven o'clock local time (two fifteen in the morning in Spain) and
First runners are expected to pass finish line about five hours later.
