Stage 2 Bhandar – Jase Bhanjyang. 24 Km & 5282 M. Of Total Altitude Gain (+3486 M./-1796 M.)

The physical problems of Luis Alberto Hernando (Adidas Trail Running) favoured the Nepalese Upendra Sunuwar (Adeaventura-Annapurna Treks), who won the second stage of the Everest Trail Race and is the new leader.

In a tough stage, in which the runners have reached the highest peak of the track, Pikey Peak, located 4068 meters high, the Nepali runner Upendra Sunuwar (Adeaventura- Annapurna Treks) put on an exhibition of running, crossing the finish line with a time of 3 hours 44 minutes and 27 seconds, more than one hour ahead of the second classified runner, the Brazilian Fernanda Maciel (The North Face-Compressport) who has confirmed the leadership in the female category.

In the overall standings, Sunuwar leads with an advantage of two hours 32 minutes and 10 seconds over the second-placed, the Spanish Ismael Dris (PEÑA CEUTÍ 100 Km.). In the women’s race Fernanda Maciel leads with a time of 1 hour 1 minute 55 seconds ahead of the Nepalese Yangdi Lama Sherpa (Adeaventura-Annapurna Treks).

The runner from Burgos Luis Alberto Hernando had physical problems from yesterday’s stage and considered retiring but finally made today’s stage walking, without disputing the victory, being far from the top finishers.

The third stage is the longest of the race, 38 km between Jase Bhanjyang and Kharikhola, with more than 4000 m. of descent.

Runners will start tomorrow at seven am (two fifteen in Spain) and first runners are expected to arrive after 4 hours.
