5th STAGE; Phakding – Tyangboche 20 Km.
The most spectacular stage of the third edition of the Everest Trail Race has finished in Tyangboche, where the runners have been able to see Everest, Lhotse and Ama Dablam, among many other mythical Himalayan mountains.
The Nepalese runner Upendra Sunuwar continues with a firm step leading the overall standings and has won the stage again with a spectacular ctime of 3 hours, 7 minutes and 26 seconds.
Second was Fernanda Maciel who also reaffirms her leadership in the female category.
After these two athletes, the following runners in the overall standings have crossed the finish line together, Lluís Puig, Paco Salas and Andreas Schambeck. Today the three have run the stage together and there have not been competitive.
The sixth and final stage will decide the composition of the men's podium since between Lluís Puig, who is second and Paco Salas in third, there are only six seconds difference.
In the womens category the podium is pretty clear if there is no collapse of any of the runners: Fernanda Maciel will win the race, with the Nepalese Yangdi Lama Sherpa as second and the American runner Shiri Leventhal as third.
The last stage will start in Tyangboche and will finish in Lukla, closing the third edition of the Everest Trail Race. Just 29 kilometers of mainly downhill running remain, so that the thirty runners will get to be “finishers” of this demanding race.
