Winter Trailquest Series - Matlock
Crisp Riding at Winter Trailquest
News Release / 14.11.2013

A beautifully sunny, crisp November day welcomed almost 200 riders to a new trailquest/mbo venue at The Imperial Rooms in the centre of Matlock. With three hours of riding, 21 controls and 305 points to go at in the Central White Peak.
The first riders set off about 8.30am, possibly too early as it turns out as there were a few minor spills due to ice still lurking in the shady areas. Once the sun really came out the dodgy bits disappeared and apart from some muddy sections of off-road the Peak District was in stunning Autumn form, the colours in the trees in particular were amazing.
Here’s the top five finishers overall:
Killian Lomas 296
Jonathan Edwards 295
Peter Ballard 288
Jason Myers 280
Warren Mason 278
Featured Rider:Mark Rowley
"Hi, my name is Mark Rowley, 48yrs old with 16st of determination. I live in Stoke on Trent and ride in a local MTB club called Goldtec. I started biking in 2009 after I got bored playing golf, I always had a good sense of direction and loved reading maps and when I came across D&W trailquests on the internet I decided to enter my 1st one @ Hayfield in 2009 with a mate Mark Brammer. We absolutely loved it and did the Winter Series together, after that I went solo.
Each year I have progressively got better and had my best series last Winter in which I came 4th in class overall in the ever competitive veterans class. I go out every weekend doing events ranging from marathons, enduros & xc races but it’s trailquests I really enjoy. I don't stand a chance in the other events as being quite heavy against the racing snakes but reading maps and making accurate decisions @ trailquests I stand a better chance.
I look forward to receiving the results on the Sunday night and if I know I've made a proper mistake which has cost me points and places I really do beat myself up to which my wife will tell you I will swear to myself in my sleep! I've tried other trailquests with other organizers but can honestly say that I cannot ever think of D&W making a mistake of a misplaced checkpoint, and Adrian & Paul are two of the nicest blokes going.
The Peak District in my opinion is the best area for MTB and I am up here almost every week as it’s less than an hour away, and it’s perfect for trailquests. Really enjoyed the Matlock event today and I never made a mistake (wife will be happy) and I've made a steady start to the series, but bring on a bit of rough stuff next round @ Buxton – cannot wait."
Round 3 of the Winter Series is on Sunday 8th December in the Buxton area from Derby University Sports Centre, Harpur Hill – expect some rufty-tufty, high level riding
