Auckland Harbour Swim
Great Weather Forecast for Auckland’s Oldest Cross-Harbour Swim
News Release / 21.11.2013

Keen swimmers everywhere in the city are looking forward to Auckland’s oldest, and one of its best loved harbour swims, from the city side across to the Chelsea sugar works on Sunday.
Run by Auckland Central Masters, and attracting swimmers for over 100 years the Chelsea swim is a regular favourite, offering a clear straight line swim across the harbour with the big pink Chelsea factory for swimmers to sight on.
Even better, it’s at a civilised hour, with assembly time at 10.15 allowing for a leisurely cup of coffee before the event begins.
Totalling 2.4 kilometres the swim, draws over 300 entrants – big enough to make it an exciting event, but without too much jostling at the start-line..
“The Chelsea swim has long been a real favourite” says ACM Committee member Geoff Carter. “For over a hundred years now keen Auckland swimmers have been making it a regular on their swimming calendar. And like all our Masters events it has a real friendly community feeling to it.”
This year he says the forecast shows the event is likely to be on a blue sunny day.
Free refreshments are available to swimmers and spot prizes will be presented at the Chelsea finish line.
This week’s swim follows the success of the Master’s first swim of the year from Herne Bay Beach and out around Watchman’s Island.
This drew 200 people into the water, with positive reports all round of a great swim.
Fastest male and female swimmers home were Phillip Ryan and Rachel Richardson with times of 27:38 and. 32:40
For more serious swimmers the title up for grabs in the Chelsea swim are:.

· Malloy Shield for time Adjusted (handicapped )Male or female Plus Chelsea gift
