Tecnu Prepares to flex its Muscle at ARWC
Earring Doug Judson / 01.12.2013

Tecnu Extreme adventure racing comes to this years Worlds as the first American team ranked in the top 10 for quite some time. Ranked 5th in the world, having had their most consistent year in recent memory, Tecnu dominated and won at their National Championships just 7weeks ago.
Tecnu has been racing and training with this particular team for 13 months, and with tempered confidence feels they will perform at a top level at this Worlds, and has a legitimate shot at a top placement.
Captain Kyle Peter, " We haven't had a race yet this year where the team was firing on all cylinders. Someone's been sick from the beginning, and it's affected our race strategy and pace, and yet we have managed to always be in contention for the podium. The last training block we had leading up to this race was amazing, and we are coming to this race fit, prepared, healthy and ready to show the world what we are capable of, and we are excited for the suffering to start. These is the best team-mates I have ever had, and I am excited to see how we do this year. The course seems to be epic, and arduous, with a lot of decisions to be made during the race, and if we manage those well, we should be near the front of the race. When it's go time, suffer, and we plan to do just that."
Tomorrow morning at 4am teams leave the luxury of the Radisson Europa in San Jose, Costa Rica and board buses bound for the race start 6 hours away near the border of Panama. At 2 p.m the gun sounds sending 60 teams across Costa Rica for what appears to be one of the toughest World Championships in recent history. If I was a betting man, I wouldn't count this determined Team Tecnu out.
When last I saw them their gear boxes were all turned in, and they were relaxing as a team going over pre race strategy. Their game faces already on, this team seems to be relishing in the idea that a bullseye seems to be on their backs. With over 500 miles of arduous terrain coming tomorrow, mixed in with alligators and snakes, plus inclement and unpredictable weather, only time will tell.
What we do know is that all these teams are going to experience a truly epic journey across amazing terrain, and have to overcome extremely difficult conditions to cross the finish line. Race day looms tomorrow.
