The AR World Championships - Costa Rica
Tecnu in 4th place at Incredibly Tough ARWC
Earring Doug Judson / 04.12.2013

This much we know, the 2013 ARWC is tough. Teams are being tested; teams are moving slower than anticipated, with lots of lead changes, and the top 6-7 teams are all within 2 hours of each other.
Some lead teams have banked sleep to use on the next hard mountain biking stage, and others have not and have moved up in the standings. It appears that Seagate, Tecnu, Silva and Columbia Vidaraid slept some last night after the tides went out, and this has affected the standings somewhat. From past experience though, teams that bank sleep early have more reserves towards the end.
Merrel moved quickly through the trekking legs to the paddle and moved from hours back into 3rd place, but did so without any sleep. It will be interesting to see how this affects their performance as time goes on. Thule has yet to sleep as well, and because of that are currently in the lead. Its a hot sunny day in Costa Rica with a light breeze, and teams are not yet 48 hours into the race.
If the first 2 days were any indication of the course and what lies ahead, the attrition race should be high. Only time will tell, but teams have been suffering, and teams that manage to race their race, and manage their reserves should have a high placement here.
