The AR World Championships - Costa Rica
Restart After Dark Zone
Alex Carrijo / 08.12.2013

Sunday morning at 04:30 four teams were at TA08 ready to restart the race after the dark zone. With no glamour or fanfare, staff just said "Go" and Tecnu, Adidas Terrex, BMS Multisport and Quasar Lontra left to a short trek to the rafting entrance at Pacure River. Just before the start, lights were approaching and it was Merrel arriving precisely at restart time to see their contenders leaving.
Tecnu and Adidas were first to arrive last night about 19:15 and 2h30 later BMS found their way to transition after taking a different route with a 20 minutes advantage over Quasar. All these times just counted on more resting time as there were no neutralization at dark zone. However, by the shore of the river trekking times gap were respected as teams were not allowed to paddle before enough sun light was set. Tecnu arrived first followed by Quasar, BMS and Adidas, which had teammate Nick Grace with great swollen feet and difficulty to walk.
Merrel had a 45 minutes change before leaving to the river and didn't have to wait to paddle. At 6:41 the best team from Costa Rica has arrived in 9th place. Aerodiva have made great progress both at the trekking and the last MTB leg as they are locals on this region. With two rafting guides on the teams it seems they are going to keep the pace on the next sections. They are all looking good and keen to progress.
