Tecnu leaves as the Dark Zone lifts in 4th place
Earring Doug Judson / 08.12.2013

The dark zone at TA8 brought many teams who had not seen each other in days back together. Tecnu who had long been at the front of the leader pack had issues with altitude sickness in the mountains on the monstrous trekking leg and fell back from 3rd place to the chase pack. They have since recovered well, but missed the cutoff for the white-water rafting secition and a chance to go for the podium, and had to watch the top three teams open up a sizeable lead from the rest of the pack.
The dark zone allowed Tecnu, BMS, Addidas and Merrel to bank a full night of sleep while others behind them pushed hard to get there when it opened knowing full well that they could make up much needed time on teams who were sitting, but would be doing so with a lot less reserves from having pushed themselves so hard to get there in time.
Tecnu's Kyle Peter as he was entering the white-water rafting section, " Lets rock. We got a great nights sleep. We feel great, and we will be running our race to the finish line, and will see how it plays out. I was born to rock."
I wouldn't count out the top team from North America and current U.S National Champions. This is adventure racing, and absolutely anything can and will happen. No one has crossed the finish line as of yet. With 2 full days of racing left on the course, it's anybody's race for 4th place, and if one of the leaders falters then a podium spot might be the reward of a well rested chase pack. The carrots officially out in front.
