At the prize giving ceremony at the Sun City Hotel tonight the top 3 places in the race were announced and prize money distributed to the teams.
The winners were adidas TERREX of the UK, who have now hold British, and European titles and are former World Champions. The team win a paid for entry into the next AR World Championships in Ecuador in November as their prize for winning the European Championships. The also collected 5000 lire for winning the Lycian Challenge and the team are now looking forward to their next big race, the ITERA expedition race in Wales in August. However, team navigator Tom Gibbs will not be racing that one as he is the course planner.
In second place were the Estonian ACE Adventure Team and third were the Salomon/OpavaNet/Accom Team with Jaroslav Krajnik, Tomas Petrecek, Pavel Kurz a Dagmar Sverakova from the Czech Republic.
These were the only results announced on the night as the full rankings are still being worked on, but there was one other significant announcement - The Beast of Ballyhoura in Ireland will host the next European Championships!
The race is held in August in South East Ireland and organized by Causeway Coast Adventure Racing. It is based at Blackwater Castle and will offer teams a very different challenge to the race here in Turkey.
You can find out more about the race at http://www.beastofballyhoura.com/. As this year’s race has not yet taken place there is still the chance for teams to enter to this year in preparation for next year’s championship race. (This year’s race is 40 hours, but it will be longer next year.)
