Expedition Idaho
Racers To Take On Best Wild Terrain In Northern Idaho From This Weekend
Press Release / 11.08.2014

The second Expedition Idaho adventure race started from the Silver Springs Resort early on Sunday 10th August. The race, which will last 7 days
will send teams off into some of the most testing and beautiful terrain in North Idaho on a journey of nearly 500 miles, by mountain bikes, kayaks and on foot, usinng only maps and compasses for navigation.
The race is organised by Perpetual Motion Events from Coeur d’Alene, who are well known nationally for their other signature events, The GREAT WEST GYMFEST, which takes place in February every year, and also the ADVENTURE SPORTS WEEKEND, which will be in mid-September. PerMoEvents is owned and managed by DAVID (DAVE) ADLARD of Athol, ID. Dave is a succesful adventure racer himself, who has competed at the highest level in the sport and is also a 2-time Ironman triathlete and mountaineer. He has spent many months designing the course for this year’s EXPEDITION IDAHO, and also obtaining permissions from the landowner’s, managers and custodians of the land and water it will cross.
Dave had this to say ‘I’m a proud resident of Idaho, and I love to show the world what a great place it is to have an adventure. This is a tough race, but the teams knew that when they entered. We just hope they take the time to look around and see how beautiful this part of Idaho is’
Expedition Racing is the ultimate level of the sport of adventure racing, which was born in the early 1970’s when a group of friends in Alaska challenged each other to race to a point over 600 miles distant without using any mechanised transport or roadways. From this tough beginning, the sport has grown into what many describe as the ultimate team endurance sport; with a global reach and popularity and a well-established World Series. The World Championships are held in a different country every year, this year they were I Costa Rica. The first Expedition Idaho, held in 2011, was won by the then World Champions, Team Thule, who are based in France. Competitors usually compete in co-ed teams of 4, but EXPEDITION IDAHO permits teams of 2 and three also (but not solo competitors for safety and practicality reasons). Teams who complete this years race will have the added satisfaction of qualifying for next years EXPEDITION ALASKA, which PerMoEvents will also organise, and which is already creating a huge buzz within the adventure racing community as the ‘must do’ event for 2015.Whatever the outcome, the 5 teams taking part are certain to enjoy a life-changing journey, which will push them to the limits of their endurance. Idaho awaits!
