20 Countries Will Participate in the 2014 Adventure Racing World Championship

With two months to go before this year’s annual Adventure Racing World Championship to be held in Ecuador, race organizers Proyecto Aventura are finishing the preparations for the grand finale of the Adventure Racing World Series this year.

The 2014 AR World Championship’s teams hail from twenty different countries: Argentina, Australia, Belgium, Brazil, Canada, Colombia, Czech Republic, Spain, France, Guatemala, Ireland, Italy, New Caledonia, New Zealand, Poland, Sweden, Switzerland, United Kingdom, United States of America, and of course the host country, Ecuador.
The host country will be represented by 13 teams, who qualified during the course of two national nonstop races in 2013 and 2014. Additionally, two of these teams, Movistar Explorer and Papacara, also participated in last year’s AR World Championship in Costa Rica, and therefore have expertise in a world cup. The other Ecuadorian teams have participated at various other international competitions. The Ecuadorian delegation is sure to put up a strong show at this year’s World Championship.
The foreign press accredited to provide race coverage hail from more than 5 countries. This year’s media coverage will be sent out from the middle of the world on the equator line in Spanish, English, French, Portuguese, and possibly even Japanese!
The Adventure Racing World Series was started in 2001 with the goal of identifying each year the world’s best expedition team. The AR World Series is composed of nonstop races all over the world in which teams must compete in the disciplines of trekking, mountain biking, orienteering, kayaking, and ropes systems. After a series of qualifying races, 3 teams qualify to participate in the annual Adventure Racing World Championship, held in a different country every year.
In 2014, 5 adventure races will be held in the AR World Series. 4 have already celebrated, in New Zealand, South Africa, United States, and the United Kingdom. This week the fifth and final race will be held in France and the three more teams will qualify and be added to the Adventure Racing World Championship roster to race this November across the equator in multiple hemispheres in Quito, Ecuador.
