Tamang And Comet Win The First Stage Of Everest Trail Race 2014
Samir Tamang (ADEAVENTURA - ANNAPURNA TREKS) and Anna Comet (DYNAFIT – PROVETSA) are the provisional leaders of the 4th edition of the EVERET TRAIL RACE.
Very early, cool temperature... with the villagers' curious presence and a group of local musicians who have helped celebrate the output of the first stage of the race that has ended in Bhandar. The temperature has been getting warmer as the morning progressed. Deorali pass (2715m) was the toughest climb and the highest point of the stage.
There has been a clear duel between the two Nepalese, Samir Tamang (ADEAVENTURA - ANNAPURNA TREKS) and Phudorje Lama Sherpa, (ADEAVENTURA - ANNAPURNA TREKS). The first won with only 33 seconds ahead of the second. The Basque Zigor Iturrieta (COMPRESSPORT) finished third, just over 26 minutes behind the winner.
In the women's category, the Catalan Anna Comet (DYNAFIT - PROVETSA) won the stage comfortably, with 20 minutes ahead of the British Kerry Sutton ((TRI MEETS TRAIL) and 40 on Yangdi Nepali Sherpa Lama (ADEAVENTURA - ANNAPURNA TREKS) .
The second stage will be much more demanding. Not for the mileage – it has less than 24 kilometres- but for the cumulative altitude, and specially for the uphill sections. It will start in Bhandar and will end in Jase Bhanjyang, and runners will have to exceed a total of 5282 meters of altitude, of which 3486 are positive slope. It should be noted that runners will reach the highest point of the entire Everest Trail Race, the Pikey Peak, 4068 meters high, from which it can be seen the most spectacular peaks in the world, like Everest, Lhotse and Makalu, among others.
