Tamang And Comet Win The 2nd. Stage Of The Everest Trail Race 2014
Samir Tamang (ADEAVENTURA - ANNAPURNA TREKS) and Anna Comet (DYNAFIT - PROVETSA) have won the queen stage Everest Trail Race.
Tamang (ADEAVENTURA – ANNAPURNA TREKS), winner of the first stage, also repeated victory, with his fellow Phudorjee Lama Sherpa (ADEAVENTURA - ANNAPURNA TREKS) just six seconds behind, and the Basque Zigor Iturrieta (COMPRESSPORT) at almost 17.
In overall classification Tamang (ADEAVENTURA - ANNAPURNA TREKS) leads with an advantage of less than a minute over Lama Sherpa (ADEAVENTURA - ANNAPURNA TREKS).
In the women, Anna Comet (DYNAFIT - PROVETSA) reaffirms her leadership with more than one hour ahead of second-placed British Kerry Sutton (TRI MEETS TRAIL).
Today’s stage has been de toughest but not the longest. It started with a technical descent of a couple of km. and has continued with a steady rise over 16-17 km., whose highest point is the summit of Pikey Peak (4068 m.), where the effort is rewarded with the sight of Everest and other peaks of 8000 m. to the left. It has followed a technical descent and a final climb has led to the finish line.
Tomorrow is the longest stage of the race, with its 38km. From Bhanjyang Jase to Kharikolan, the runners will have to overcome more than 6500m. of cumulative altitude (over 4000m. downhill).
