Tamang And Comet Win The 4th Stage Of The Everest Trail Race 2014
The EVEREST RAIL RACE 2014 continues steadily towards completion in Lukla. Today's stage of 31km between Kharikhola and Phakding could be considered as a transition one before the demanding and exciting stage of tomorrow.
The today’s stage began with a tough climb of 8 km. to Kari La (2893m.), basically because in 5km. you climb 1000m., and then the path has meandered through valleys and rivers, continually passing inhabited areas. If the early stages were developed in almost total solitude, the 4th stage has shown the increasing proximity to major centers since the trails become heavily used by porters, caravans of mules and yaks carrying all kinds of supplies, and trekkers who initiate a circuit from Lukla.
All this has made that runners have had to overcome many obstacles in his way to the finish line, where relatives and friends were waiting for the runners in a coincidental stage of the trekking circuit that companions of the ETR 2014 are enjoying too.
There were no surprises in the standings. Samir Tamang (ADEAVENTURA - ANNAPURNA TREKS) has reached the finish line just three minutes ahead of second placed Phudorjee Lama Sherpa (ADEAVENTURA - ANNAPURNA TREKS), while Zígor Iturrieta (COMPRESSPORT) has entered 16 minutes 6 seconds behind the stage winner and remains in third place.
In the women category, Anna Comet (DINAFIT - PROVETSA) crossed first the finish line, followed by Kerry Sutton (TRI MEET TRAIL), who has entered 37 minutes 51 behind the winner, while Yangdi Lama Sherpa (ADEAVENTURA - ANNAPURNA TREKS) has distanced 1 hour, 7 minutes 29 seconds.
Tomorrow the companions will also encourage their runners at the start of the 5th stage between Phakding and Tyangboche. A magnificent mountain scenery will wait for them as end of stage; a privilege reserved to the participants of a race like the EVEREST TRAIL RACE.
