News Release / 11.08.2016

The press conference for the 2016 HUAIRASINCHI Colombia race was held today, Wednesday August 10, in the Torre de Cali Hotel, which will serve as race headquarters for Colombia’s biggest adventure race.
The conference included presentations by Major Jorge Duque, Head of Comprehensive Action from Colombian Army’s III Brigade, Diana Velasquez from Cali’s Tourism Bureau, Carlos Castillo, a racer from the Colombian team Saferbo Karen’s Safetti, and Jorge Diego Llano, race organizer.
At the same time, the first teams began arriving to complete their registration for the race that will be held from this Friday August 12 to Monday August 15, throughout the Cauca Valley in the Pacific region.
Major Duque discussed the security backing that will be provided to support the race. Diana Velasquez pointed out how the race “will be an opportunity to show the world the region’s tourism potential, highlighting it’s ecological, cultural, and culinary richness.” Carlos Castillo told the press about his excitement to be able to compete as a local in the Adventure Racing World Series race, and his hopes to arrive in one of the first spots in the elite category.
The race has two categories: elite, with a longer, nonstop trajectory and disciplines like trekking, mountain biking, kayak, rappel, and orientation; and adventure, where teams complete a shorter route and are able to stop and camp each night.
In this 13th edition, 100 participants from six different countries (Brazil, Spain, Uruguay, Finland, Colombia, and Ecuador) will compete during 400 kilometers over beaches, rivers, mountains, and jungle to see who will be crowned winner of the HUAIRASINCHI Colombia ARWS 2016 race.
