Huairasinchi Colombia
Huairasinchi Day 3
Race Release / 16.08.2016

The third day of HUAIRASINCHI Colombia 2016 began early in the morning with several teams at Transition Area 5 outside of Cali. During this stage, teams advanced into the city to complete a 45-story rappel down the outside of the Torre de Cali Hotel, the same building they had stayed in prior to the race and that served as race headquarters. Teams afterwards proceeded on foot outside of Cali to complete a trek towards the northeastern town of Mulalo.
Adventure teams had spent the night at the AT3 and 4 site in El Queremal. Early in the morning Sunday they were transported to AT5 to start their day at 8:40. They completed a shorter route of only 31 km, whereas Elite traveled 55 km in this leg.
At 4:02 pm the first team arrived at AT6, team #6 Fairis from Ecuador. During the night and morning they successfully passed team #3 Bosi Adventure, a team that had been leading the race up until that point. At 4:32 pm Fairis left the transition area with their kayaks to begin a 30 km leg between Mulalo and Vijes on the Cauca River, one of Colombia’s largest and most important water ways.
The organization decided to eliminate the trekking section between AT 7 and 8, given the extra time that teams took to navigate the previous trekking leg between AT 5 and 6. This change will allow teams to arrive on schedule to the finishing line on Monday.
After the kayaking section, teams went directly to AT 9 where they had to complete the race’s last leg, a 59 km biking stage back to Vijes and the finishing line.
