Ecuadorian Team Fairis Wins Huairasinchi Colombia 2016

After 67 hours of racing, starting on Friday, August 12 in San Cipriano, and passing through many geographically different areas of the Cauca Valley (jungle, ocean, mountains, and valleys), the winner of HUAIRASINCHI’s 13th edition crossed the finish line on Monday, August 15.
Team Fairis from Ecuador inlcuded four highly experienced racers: Urtzi Iglesias, a member of the second highest ranked team in the Adventure Racing World Series, José Bernardo Vintimilla and Jorge Brito from Ecuador, and the Colombian Yeimy Cadena.
The 390 km race passed through urban and rural areas in Buenaventura, Cali, Yumbo, Restrepo, and Vijes, where the finish line was located.
The 24 teams completed trekking, kayak, and mountain biking stages, as well as a rappel and a special tubing section at the beginning of the race, and an introductory leg to experience San Cipriano’s famous “brujitas”, a local form of transport along railroads.
The second team to reach the finish line was Bosi Adventure Team from Medellin, four hours after Fairis. The team members were Gabriel Castano, Eliana Chica, Richard Diaz, and Julian Munoz. The third team, Saferbo Safeti 2, also hailing from Colombia was represented by Juan David Acevedo, Jaime Henao, Natalia Villalba, and Alejandro Zuluaga.
In the Elite category, eight teams withdrew during the race because of both technical and physical difficulties. The Adventure category, covering a shorter distance with stops each night, included four teams. HUAIRASINCHI Colombia is part of the Adventure Racing World Series and is one of the world’s most difficult sports.
The awards ceremony will be held Tuesday, August 16 at 10am in the morning in the central park of Vijes.
