Cape Wrath Ultra - Day Eight
29.05.2023
Scottish runner David Parrish has won the 2023 Cape Wrath Ultra, completing the eight-day 400km race in a total time of 45:28:48 (the second fastest time in the event’s history).
Spain’s Fernando Alvarez was second in 47:53:27, followed by the UK’s Sam Hill (49:31:52). Jo Meek from the UK won the women’s race in 52:09:56, a new record by 45 minutes. UK runners completed the top three, with Elaine Bisson second in 55:26:32 and Jana Szczepaniak third (58:46:47). In both races, the top three runners retained their positions from day two until the finish.
The event was David Parrish’s first ever ultra race. David comments: “I felt pride and relief. I was kind of sad when it was all over. All of a sudden all the pain went away, and I thought, I could get used to the positivity of the whole experience. Despite everyone being knackered and broken, everyone was always so positive and uplifting. I’ll have to do it again. I think I'd like to come back as one of the volunteer team.”
Jo Meek adds: “That was very hard, but I’m really happy that I did it.”
Of the 185 starters, 88 participants completed the 2023 Cape Wrath Ultra, with a further 48 reaching the lighthouse on the shorter Explorer course.
