Length: 14 hours
Location: South Scotland
A typical event would have up to 6 stages based around running, biking and kayaking with navigation using OS maps.
For example:
Score Saturday (reaching as many controls as possible to maximise score in time available)
X-Country Challenge: 2-3 hours on foot
Mountain Biking: 4-6 hours on bike
Night Navigation: 1-2 hours on foot
Speed Sunday (completing a set course as fast as possible - shorter options are usually available)
Kayaking: up to 15 km using sit-on-top kayaks (which are beginner friendly)
Trail Run: up to 15 km on foot
Cycle Endurance: up to 30 km on bike
Sometimes, stages may be integrated, so the above should serve as a guideline only. Full logistics for each event are revealed 10 days beforehand.
The events are designed to challenge a wide range of abilities. On Saturday, faster competitors would simply find more controls in the time available; slower competitors would find fewer controls and can opt to finish early. On Sunday, faster competitors would opt to do the long course; slower competitors would opt to do the short course.
The unique aspect of these events is that first timers compete alongside experienced adventure racers. They may set different goals, but regardless of ability, all leave with the same sense of discovery, effort and achievement. There is no elitism and everyone is encouraged simply to \"do their best\".
