Length: 590 km
Location: Simpson Desert
The event consists of 9 stages over 5 days. The first 4 days have an 80km morning stage followed by a 50km afternoon stage. Riders must maintain an average of 12kph or they will be picked up by the sweep vehicle and receive a time penalty.
The final 80km stage on day 5 ends outside a classic Aussie icon - the Birdsville Hotel in the tiny outback town of Birdsville in Queensland.
Riders need to arrange their own support 4WD, although organisers can help by putting them in touch with potential support crews.
This is an extreme endurance event. Cycling skills are less important than the mental and physical capability to push yourself and to monitor your body.
