Got What it Takes?

A good level of fitness will help, especially at higher altitudes, but it’s only one factor in a competition the organizers describe as ‘intelligent sport’. Team work is key, as is quick, intuitive and resourceful thinking.
It’s a competition that requires the physical strength to keep going, the coolness to make decisions under pressure, the ability to sense when a team mate needs encouragement, and the heart to give it all you’ve got, even when things are not going your way.
The course planners will try to throw surprises, test multiple skills at the same time and will always keep up the pressure. Here’s what they’ve said they expect of those taking part (in no particular order);
- The ability to work as a team.
- Strategic decision-making.
- Resource assessment and allocation.
- Motivation, determination and stamina.
- The ability to respond to change and the unexpected.
- Lateral thinking and initiative.
- Observation and comprehension.
- Map reading/cross country navigation.
No one team will be good at everything, each will have their highs and lows, but when the final placings are calculated it’s the team which has worked together to master these skill and shown the strongest competitive spirit which will win.
