Subaru Primal Quest
Bonding and Shopping
Matt / 17.09.2004

Inside the luxurious San Juan Motel
Team Gerber Legendary Blades has arrived for the pre-race rendezvous and boy are they ready for action. Currently, Avril, Joe and their crack support crew technician Matt are resting up for what is sure to be a tense scene at the pre-registration registration. We are waiting on the arrival of Scott and Ben in the late evening hours.
The past 36 hours have been nothing less than a bonding experience for the three of us. And what a better way to bond then to shop together. Hertz provided our shopping mobile and we quickly obtained food supplies and a few last race items in the Seattle area. We stopped by the local parcel service store and picked up 18 boxes of gear that had been waiting for us since earlier this week.
Shopping has been a great adventure thus far but personally I must admit I’d rather be stuck out in the middle of the woods with three other adrenal crazed monkeys attempting to make it to the next checkpoint. Luckily for this team, they’ll have that opportunity in just a few more days, but first we’ll get to relax with each other in this lush Northwestern climate.
The weather currently is about 53 degrees with a slight 5-10 mph breeze and cool rain. Forecasters say this is about what it’s going to look like for the next 50 years so we’re not taking any chances. Joe has already committed himself to long sleeves for the entire race while Avril currently sits in a plush recliner filing away at her calluses (with her Gerber Legendary Blade of course) so that she doesn’t wind up with the dreaded “Swampfoot. Yes, race fans, Swampfoot (the same epidemic that Zappa voiced concern about in the 1970s) is a racer’s worse nightmare and the moist weather conditions up this way will provide for plenty of it.
Well, its time for us to be going now, (we’ve got that important pre-pre registration to be getting to) so until next time this has been Matt from Team Gerber Legendary Blades saying, "Fend for Yourself".
P.S. I’m going to try and get in at least one note from the field per day. It’s a personal goal of mine, and with sleepmonsters.com, anything is possible.
