The Terra Incognita Begins with a Big Crowd

The start of the Terra Incognita came at 11am this morning with the Croatian coastline as its backdrop. Most teams had no problem with the first kayaking leg. Even though the weather called for a minor storm, their seemed to be no dark clouds in the sky.

One team, Team 4 - German 4, prepared their kayaks before the race by tying the boats together. At first, they seemed to have a slight advantage. It took them a little more time to get their kayaks into the water, but quickly pulled to the up to about fourth place. After a short while, they soon slipped into the rest of the pack.

The first stop on this leg of the race had teams pull up to a beach and trek about 100 meters uphill to the checkpoint. Once teams headed back to their kayaks, they got into the Adriatic and moved on towards checkpoint 2.

At checkpoint 2, the teams unloaded their kayaks and prepared for the first treking leg of the race. The first place team at checkpoint 2 was Team 17 - EAFiT followed closely by Latribu Raid Adventure and Salomon Opavanet.

Even though these teams had a slight lead over the other teams, the first three teams to reach checkpoint 3 were Team 8 - Haglofs, Team 1 - CCC Toyota Salomon, and returning champions from last year, Team 3 - Osiguranje Zagreb. These three teams headed onto checkpoint 4 together.
