Terra Incognita
Coming From the Teams, This is an Exciting Course

The rest of the field of play is still spread thin. With Team 1 currently on the final Kayaking Paddle section of the race, between Checkpoint 21 and Checkpoint 22, some teams are still tredging through the Mountaineering Section between Checkpoint 12 and Checkpoint 15. As long as Team 1 continues doing whatever it is that got them into this far of a lead, they are sure to clench the first place spot. They are expected to cross the finish line early tomorrow morning. When I asked Simun Cimerman, the race director and designer, what he thought about Team 1, he said he was surprised anyone would finish the race this quickly. It would seem that barring any unforseen circumstances, Team 17 and Team 5 will be fighting over Second Place.
Team 16 - Frilufslageret.dk had been racing unranked with only two team members, until they reached Checkpoint 16. Here the team had completed the Mountaineering Section and felt that was the highlight of the race, so there was no need to continue on. The concensus of most of the racers who made it through this section was that it was the best Mountaineering Section some of them had ever had the pleasure of hiking through.
With the weather report forcasting rain, teams prepared for this leg of the race very well. The rain didn\'t fall all day Thursday and well into Friday. At around 3:00p.m. the rain started to fall at Checkpoint 15. This was short lived as the rain came and went intermintantly throughout the next hour. Even though the skys cleared, at that point, the rain had caused enough damage to make the Mountaineering Section that much more slippery and trecherous. Three teams have still yet to check into Checkpoint 15; Team 4 - German 4, Team 11 - RSP Latvia, and Team 15 - Pustolovec Rajd Ajkule 2.
