Mind Over Mountain Adventure Race #004
Cumberland is SOLD OUT!
20.09.2005

“This race is the most popular race of the entire series says Race Director Bryan Tasaka. “I took a poll and Cumberland beat out Ucluelet, Duncan, Ladysmith and Sechelt as the best MOMAR venue. This is largely due to the fantastic mountain bike trails in Cumberland and amazing views on Comox Lake. The after-party at Mt. Washington also has legendary status.
The Western Race Directors are also meeting after event for their annual conference. So you will also see many known names in the sport showing their faces. Geoff Langford of Raid the North, Simon Donato from CARA, Chris Koch from Team Spirit, and the legendary Jim Mandelli of Team Subaru Canada will be racing in his first MOMAR. Mandelli is one of Canada’s best expedition racers and has competed in numerous international events including Eco-Challenge and Primal Quest.
Last year’s winner, Cumberland’s Jeremy Grasby, owner of the Riding Fool Hostel, will be back to defend his title.
A family team from Courtenay, The Whole Fam Damily, is competing in the team category. Marguerite Masson and Stan Wood are racing with their children Kyle (24) and Rebecca Wood (26) as a way to celebrate turning 50 years old.
Almost everyone rents a cabin at Mt. Washington for both nights because of the Saturday night after-party that feature a buffet dinner, awards, and dance. This year the Irish Band “Town Pants will be performing. Tasaka says “For many racers and volunteers, it’s more about the after-party than the actual race.
“The race starts with the kayak stage and it’s going to be really cool to see over 200 kayaks in the water at once says Tasaka.
