Raid the North: Canadian Championships
Anticipation
Doug Doyle / 22.09.2005

Geoff’s called me from the bus which is taking his field of twelve teams (Fudugazi, Gearsracing.com, Outdoor Pursuit, Pure, Simon River Sports, SOAR, Temiskaming Trekkers, Terranauts, Tree Huggers, Zissou, Urban Voyager and Wildrose) to the start line which is yet another two hours traveling.
They have just pulled in for a rest break and as the bus is being fuelled, the teams are also fuelling up at Tim Hortons – coffee and donuts: race food extraordinaire. The racers won’t be concerned about packing on extra calories in the last minutes pre-race as they will burn them off once the start takes place at 12:00 noon: they will set forth into the backwoods and whitewater that will lead them through an amazing 275 km smorgasbord of adventure racing on a course designed by Supplierpipelines’ Bob Miller.
In the background I could hear teams chattering away, excited about what the next few days will bring them. They started their journey by completing the registration process on September 21, 2005 at 12:00pm and then worked into the night post race briefing plotting route choices.
