For many, approaching a milestone birthday involves elaborate planning, guest lists, perhaps a surprise party or a quiet dinner. A half century celebration is cause to wind things down a notch, put the feet up and reflect on the preceding five decades of life and fine tune your approaching years. Retirement is looming, kids call you “Mister� or “Ma’am� and the sports gear is relegated to the closet. The golf channel is on 24/7 so what better life can you fall into?

That depends if you are Stan Wood and Marguerite Masson-Wood from Courtenay, BC.

Marguerite and Stan are celebrating their 50th birthday this year. With Stan’s prompting, he convinced Marguerite and their two children, Rebecca and Kyle to participate as a team of four in the Mind Over Mountain Adventure Race in Cumberland October 1, 2005. With a combined age of 150 years, you can expect strength, experience, perseverance, determination and exuberance to be featured as the four approach the start line and race to the finish.

Stan is a contractor; Marguerite a teacher; daughter Rebecca is a student at BCIT and Kyle is a mechanic currently taking a break as a gardener.
